What is
Jujutsu?
Jujutsu,
which means art of flexibility is the father of all modern Japanese
Martial Arts. The ancient unarmed fighting method of the Japanese Warrior, Jujutsu
unifies the principles of Karate, Aikido and Judo into an explosive
method of self-defense that makes use of all the bodies natural weapons.
Jujutsu is not merely a
combination of Karate, Judo and Aikido, but is actually the art from which
Judo and Aikido were born. Many of the techniques and principles found in
these arts, are also found in Jujutsu. Also, many of the striking techniques
that are found in Karate, are also found in Jujutsu.
Types of techniques
typical of Jujutsu include:
-
Nage Waza - throwing
techniques
-
Kansetsu Waza - joint
locking techniques
-
Atemi Waza - striking
of the vital points
-
Shime Waza -
strangulation techniques
-
Katame Waza - ground

-
Osae Waza - holding
techniques
-
Ukemi Waza - falling
techniques
-
Ate Waza - striking

-
Geri Waza - kicking

-
Uke Waza - blocking

-
Goshinjutsu Waza -

The
flexibility comes from the philosophy of never opposing force directly,
but rather using an opponents force against him. This permits those of smaller
stature to defeat opponents that are larger and stronger and to use only that
force which is appropriate to overcome the attack.
Because of the nature of Jujutsu, it is the
perfect self-defense art for persons of all sizes and for the many reasons why
a person would feel the need for martial arts training. Whether you are a
Police Officer, student or just "regular folk", you will find that
Jujutsu will give you the training that you need for all aspects of life.
